When The Sky Lost Its Colors

BY HENRY GILES & DEISY SUAREZ-GILES

Based on a true story of love, loss, and the colors that come back.

Inspired by Henry’s Fox 11 Los Angeles viral interview during the Eaton Canyon Fire

When the Sky Lost Its Colors is a true children’s story told through the real words of six-year-old Henry Giles after his family lost their home in the Eaton Canyon Fire.

First shared during a Fox 11 LA News interview with journalist Susan Hirasuna, Henry’s quiet observation — “It all lost its colors” — touched hearts across the country.

Through gentle storytelling, the book helps children process fear, loss, and change, while showing that love, family, and hope remain even when everything else feels broken.

About the Book

Born from a moment of courage, this book exists to help children transform pain into purpose. It encourages emotional literacy, open communication, and connection among children, parents, educators, and caregivers — reminding families they are not alone during difficult moments.

A portion of proceeds supports art and French education at Altadena Arts Magnet School, where creativity empowers children to heal, express themselves, and grow.

About the Authors

HENRY GILES

Henry Giles was six years old when his family lost their home in the Eaton Canyon Fire. During a news interview, Henry quietly said, “It’s all lost its colors,” a moment that inspired this book.

Henry is a thoughtful and creative child who loves art, building, storytelling, and music. He plays the piano, enjoys swimming, and has a deep love for dogs. Henry attends Altadena Arts Magnet School, where he is enrolled in the French Dual Language program. He is trilingual and speaks Spanish, English, and French. Through this story, Henry hopes other children know that even after something scary or sad happens, love, courage, and color can still return

DEISY SUAREZ-GILES

Deisy Suarez-Giles is Henry’s mom, an author, entrepreneur, and founder of DESUAR Spa. She co-wrote this book with Henry to help him process loss and share hope with other families.
